Although chocoholics may be a little disappointed, the Menier Chocolate Factory is a theatre and a leading arts centre. Once a chocolate factory, the theatre was opened in 2004 and stages plays, musicals, stand-up comedy, and live music. The theatre is seen as one of the most dynamic fringe venues in the capital.
The building was originally built in 1870 and a visit to the theatre’s restaurant with its timber beams and exposed brickwork points to the history of the place. Look out for the popular meal deals which include tickets to a show.

London’s Fashion and Textile Museum in Bermondsey was founded by designer Zandra Rhodes in 2003. It is the only museum in the country showcasing contemporary fashion and textile design. The building itself is also beautifully designed and the product of renowned architect Ricardo Legoretta.
Not only does the museum house a wide range of fascinating temporary exhibitions it is also a hub for learning. As well as events and talks there are a number of workshops where you can learn a new craft or hone existing skills.
Fill Up on Free Samples at Borough Market
A market not to be missed is Borough Market. The vendors at this busy food market give out more free samples than Santa gives out presents on Christmas Eve.
Don’t forget to cover both sides and if you’re into seafood then grab a bite of the free paella. If you can, avoid it here at lunchtime and on the weekends, it can get uncomfortably busy.
If you need some cash then some genius has popped a free one in the centre of the market – if that isn’t convenient enough for you I don’t know what is!

Southwark is lucky enough to be the home of two handsome cathedrals. The Southwark Cathedral has a sweet spot on the bank of the Thames, close to London Bridge.
