Housed in a purpose-built building. On the ground floor there are publications for sale, cloakroom with lockers, toilets, meeting room and common room with hot drinks machine.

Lift to a spacious searchroom with books on open access and some records and maps on microfilm/fiche. Card indexes for other material available including images.

Exhibitions are staged and some special events and adult education courses are offered. There is a Friends organisation. Deposits of local relevance are welcomed.
