The collection includes the archives of the Greater London Council, London County Council and Metropolitan Board of Works plus associations, businesses, charities, courts and hospitals.
Maps, popular books and the microfilm collection (with viewers and printers) are on open access in the reference room. Other material is catalogued and can be ordered for study in the reading room (allow 20 mins). There are guides to using the resources or ask staff for assistance. A limited number of power points are available for personal computers.
The searchable electronic catalogue of LMA holdings can be accessed in the reference room or online. The LMA produces a series of information leaflets on archives and printed sources which are available on site or can be downloaded from their website.
To use printing facilities or view original material you will need to apply for a History Card. This requires a completed application form (online or on site) plus ID. Check website for accepted forms of ID.
On the mezzanine floor is a common room with lockers and drinks machines. There is often an exhibition of material from the collection and there is a programme of events (free mailing list). Small shop.
