Bankside was outside the jurisdiction of the City but only a ferry ride away so until the time of the Puritans served as the entertainment area of London with animal-baiting, brothels and theatres. The Thames riverfront between Blackfriars and Tower Bridge later became lined with wharves, warehouses and industrial premises. Now the Thames Path has made this accessable and pleasant with lots of interest and some major London attractions.

	ENTERTAINMENT/EVENTS TATE MODERN has a programme of events. SHAKESPEARE'S GLOBE Education department organises events for the general public. THE SCOOP at CITY HALL has occasional events SOUTHWARK CATHEDRAL has Lunchtime Music at 1:10pm on Mondays & Tuesdays.
	EATING OUT The precincts of the Cathedral and Tate Modern have seating. Some riverside seating available Hays Galleria provides shelter if wet or cold. Toilets in the Globe and Tate.
	SHOPPING/MARKETS Borough Market is very popular and sells produce (including organic) and cooked foods. Shops within the Cathedral, Tate and Globe sell good quality themed merchandise.
