BRIXTON WINDMILL Blenheim
Gardens SW2 5ET
Built in 1816 when Brixton Hill was open fields. It was leased
the following year by John Ashby producing stoneground wholemeal
flour. The Ashby family operated the mill, which became known as
Ashby's Mill, for the whole of its working life. It fell into
disuse in the early 20th century but has now been restored.

The present brick tower windmill (pictured in header) was built
in 1854-5 to replace a post mill destroyed by fire. It has been

A grade II* listed wooden smock mill in use until 1934 and
containing much original machinery.
WIMBLEDON WINDMILL Windmill Road
SW19 5NR
A rare example of a hollow post mill built in 1817 and grade II*
listed. It houses a museum depicting the history and development
of windmills in Britain with working models, machinery, equipment
